Day 117: Snowmobile, Ski, Snowboard, Igloo

Date: 27 DEC 2008

Taina's place is Legendary. She has got everything you want to experience in the far north. I am so lucky to have met her. Let me tell you why.

Morning activities: Taina's kids brought us out into their own woods(you heard me right, they own the woods) on a snowmobile and did skiing and snowboarding.

Getting ready.

Then I went for the ski. Having tried the snowboard, ski was so much easier.

But still, I had my fall.

Photobucket

Photobucket

I also gave a shot on the snowmobile and drove it back to their house.

Photobucket

This is their house and the surroundings. They live in the woods.

Photobucket

Photobucket

OMG! See the round little thing on the right? Its an igloo. They specially built it for their guest to have a feel of the arctic life. How thoughtful.

Photobucket

Look! A slide made out of snow from the roof.

Photobucket

And so we spent some time playing on the snowsilde in the afternoon.

After awhile the sun began to set and so we sat on the roof watching the lovely sunset. (Bare in mind this is still in the afternoon).

Here's my signature shot.

Whats the best way to chill our beer and chocolates? Dump it in the snow!

Photobucket

After watching the sunset, we then took our beer and chocolates and went into the igloo!! It was so cool. We ended up spending hours chatting in it.

Photobucket

On the "ceiling" of the igloo was a glass window. Taina made it this way so that while inside the igloo, we can still look at the sky and so if we happen to see the northern lights, we can all dash out!!

Photobucket

Chilling out in the igloo.

Xmas tree's leaves were our cushion in the igloo.

Taina's kids came in to join the fun.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Ok, after hearing so many things about taina, its time for me to introduce her. This is Taina!! She is a lovely host!!

Photobucket

Together with her in the kitchen is yet another guest of hers and they were perparing dinner.

Photobucket

Photobucket

You may start to wonder how many guests s she hosting? Ha. Dont even ask. I will let you know soon. Anyway. Sauna is part of the Finnish life and so ofcourse they have their own Sauna. Here's me and Rodrigo going for the sauna.

Photobucket

The temperature in the sauna is around 90 degree centigrade.

Photobucket

It is also a Finnish tradition that while taking a sauna, you will have to come out in between to roll in the snow before getting back to the sauna again. They believe that this is good for health. And so we did. Mind you that the temperature outside is around minus 20 degrees centigrade and so within a few seconds, we had an around 100 degree centigrade difference in temperature. It was crazy. And so we began to do crazy stuff. (All these were suspose to be done naked but for photosake, we put on minimium clothes).

Photobucket

Now that was crazy wasnt it? Haha. It was really crazily cold!! So cheers to what we did. We did it!!

Photobucket

Oh, I forget to mention that a sauna beer is also as important. So it was sauna, snow, sauna, snow, sauna, snow and then beer. So these are our sauna beer, Karhu, Finnish beer.

Photobucket

And after a crazy hot/cold sauna, we had a french desert made by our fellow french guest.

Photobucket

Halfway through it someone spotted a very light northern light. We all got excited and out we went to see it. It was really very light, so light that it was as good as nothing. So we were hoping it would get stronger. But after waiting for more than half an hour, it disappeared. Saw many shooting stars though. Although disappointed, I can still say that I saw the northern lights. But still, let me see a stronger one please!!! Praying hard!!

Anyway, how can I miss the chance to sleep in the igloo!!! And so Rodrigo and I decided to spent the night in the igloo. Cold it was, but we still have to experience it!! Goodnight guys!! I am an eskimo for now.
