Day 220 & 221: Windmills

Date: 9 April 2009

Leaving Rotterdam, I made my way to De Lier to pay a visit to Maarten and Isle, a couple whom I had met 3 years ago in Northern Thailand. I rode my way to Northern Thailand on my motorcycle, but so did they. The only difference is that they rode all the way from Netherlands to Thailand. Yes, you read it right. They came all the way from Europe into Asia on a motorcycle.

They stay in a nice little town.

Just as I was looking around to find their house, this letterbox caught my attention and I guess this must be it. As I remembered that I saw the same design on Maarten's helmet 3 years back.

This was a photo taken 3 years ago. See the similarity?

Then I went to the door and I saw this note.

Wondering who is Lilou? She is their cute little baby girl.

What do you expect to see in a world traveller's home? World map, lots of travel photos and things from all around the world.

My cosy room for the night.

I was also happy to see the same bike (and the same helmet) which I saw 3 years ago. This was the bike which brought them around the world. So, I guess they already have feelings for it.

What else can you find in a house with a baby? Lots of diapers ofcourse. :)

I spend the rest of the day chatting and catching up with them. Also done a little bit of gardening. Somehow, I felt really happy for them. Both love to travel, found each other on the trip, he propose to her in the Himalayas, travelled together, got back home, settled down, got a house, a kid and live happily together. They really made me look forward to my other partner. Just when will she appear?

Maarten is bringing me out to the countryside today. He actually arranged for me to ride his African Twin and he will ride his dad's bike. It would be so nice for me to ride on the country road of Netherlands. I would really love to do it. However, I left my driving license back in Manchester and so I cant. Better be safe than sorry. I do not wish to bring any kind of trouble to Maarten. So instead, he pillion me.

Bikers in Netherlands were so friendly. whenever a rider on a big bike see another rider on a big bike, they will wave and say hi to each other. Interesting!!!

Then it was the countryside. But what exactly are we looking for? Make a guess....

Windmills ofcourse!!! How can I some to Netherlands and not see the famous windmills?? So we had our packed lunch while sitting down on the grass patch, enjoying the view of the windmills. Ofcourse it was very windy!!

Before we headed back, we went to a local bike shop as Maarten needs to get something.

Then we went back home to made dinner. Maarten made Risott. Its something like fried rice but cooked in the exact opposite method. After which, another 2 couchsurfers from France came to stay with us. A mother and her daughter.

At night, Maarten brought us out to attend a spiritial dance workshop. It was a very interesting experience for me. In that workshop, everyone seems to be in their own world. It was very hard for me to describle the feeling. It was like everyone were there, but everyone were not there. It was a really weird thing and if you are not open minded enough, you would definitely feel out of place. Sorry but I really do not know how to put it into words.

Well, the adults went. But the kids stayed at home and watch dvds.
