Incredible India (New Delhi) 2008
This is my second time in New Delhi, India. The first time was in 2005. Nothing much has change over the period of 3 years. Everything looks about the same, the crazy traffic stays the same and the honking of honks is still as loud as ever. No wonder they call themselves the INCREDIBLE INDIA!! Indeed, it is really INCREDIBLE. It is INCREDIBLE that no matter how long they have been building the roads, there never seems to be any improvments and it just takes forever to build it. On the other hand, they seems to be quite fast that a complete Metro system has been built and is already in operation in a span of less than 3 years. INCREDIBLE INDIA, isn't it?
Thats why I love to travel. Though same place, but you get to experience something different. Now, let me share with you the INCREDIBLE things about India. I shall start with my hotel first.
Hotel
Upon reaching the enterance of my hotel, I was quite amazed by it. You mean this is my Hotel??!?! It looks like those in Geylang back home. Quite bad for the first impression.
The hotel lobby, however, still looks ok.
When I went up to my room, I realise that I have got a "million dollar view". A great view of a construction site.
The location of this hotel, though is very near to the airport, is quite a distance away from town and has got nothing much in its vicinity.
This is what you see along the streets near my hotel at night.
Not knowing what to do or where to go at night, we ended up staying in our hotel rooms. The good news is, they have free usage of wifi internet for their guest. So guess what, this becomes the common scene in my room every night. Me working on my laptop at the desk, my friend working his ass off on his laptop on the bed, and the tv playing some shows that we dont undertstand.
First night in India, INCREDIBLE. One moment it gives you disappointment, the next you get some surprises. One moment up, the other down. This is India, this is incredible!!
Traffic
The next incredible thing in india is its traffic. If you think Bangkok's traffic is bad, you haven seen the worst. In India, they basically do not use their side mirrors much and depends heavily on their honks. They even honk to signal that they want to over take. That is why they have these words painted on almost very huge vehicles: "HONK PLEASE"
To experience it without being there, let me take you for a ride in a Indian "tuk-tuk" though the traffic of India with the following video. In the video, you will hear the incredible honks, see the overtakings of traffic and hear my "tuk-tuk" taxi driver scolding the other road users.
India tuk-tuk
My driver concentrating hard on the road.
The incredible ride.
Metro
Alternatively, you can go for the metro which will save you from getting a dusty face at the end of a tuk-tuk ride.
Chandi Chowk
The backpackers place. The place to see the local life.
Red Fort
Hamayun's Tomb
Other INCREDIBLE Things
Its incredible that its Piccadally in London, but Piccadelhi in India
Its incredible how they use signboards to block up all the windows of the building.
Its incredible that they are burning stuffs all day long, emitting lots of smoke, in a crowded street and noone seems to complain.
Its incredible what books you can find.
Its incredible how hungry you can get.
Its incredible how people can pee in the crowded streets.
Its incredible how people can stand the sight and smell of the end result of tons of pee.
Its incredible how many beggers they have on the streets
Well, after all the incredible things that I encountered, it does not seems very incredible after all. WELCOME TO INCREDIBLE INDIA!!
CHEERS MAN!!
